The Bernese Mountain Dog portrait is centered across the front, with a broad black head, folded ears, rounded eyes, wide muzzle and visible upper chest. Black beadwork defines the ears, outer face, nose, mouth, neck and body, establishing the darkest areas of the composition against the mustard-yellow background.

Rust-orange beadwork forms the eyebrow spots above the eyes and continues through the cheek markings, sections of the muzzle and throat area. Gray and ivory details appear along the central forehead, sides of the muzzle, lower jaw and chest. Small ivory highlights within the dark eyes add further definition to the facial treatment.

The portrait crosses the flap line rather than being confined to one section of the bag. The folded ears, forehead, eyes, cheeks and upper muzzle occupy the flap, while the nose, lower muzzle, throat and chest continue onto the lower front panel.
